Junior Boks trounce Argentina U20 with 12 tries

THE Junior Springboks scored six tries in each half to take a convincing 78-31 victory over Argentina U20 in their rugby match in Saldanha Bay.

The encounter on Friday was the first of three matches as the two teams fine-tune their preparations for the Junior World Championship, to be held next month in New Zealand.

South Africa led 38-14 at half-time.

Despite choosing to play against a stiff breeze in the first half, the Junior Springboks quickly built up an impressive 31-0 lead inside 19 minutes.

The visitors gradually found their rhythm and managed to score four tries, two either side of half-time.

South Africa's try scorers were Daniel du Plessis (2), Wilco Louw (2), Corniel Els (2), Dan du Preez (2), Duhan van der Merwe (2), Jaco van der Walt and Sergeal Petersen. Van der Walt kicked nine conversions.

The next match is tomorrow at 3pm at Paul Roos in Stellenbosch. Saturday's final match is at City Park.
