No favours as Real City seek to upset log leaders

IT will not be about doing anybody favours, but Port Elizabeth semi- professional football side Real City are out to embarrass log leaders Angavu Stars in an Eastern Cape ABC Motsepe League game at the NU2 Stadium in Motherwell today at 3pm.

With less than 10 league matches to be played before the end of the season, the teams are fighting for better positions on the log table.

Tenth-placed on the league standings, City are out for a win to enhance their chances of finishing well inside the top-eight bracket while high-flying Queenstown outfit Angavu Stars are hoping to extend their lead on top of the table.

Home side City are eager for revenge after they were beaten 3-0 by the Stars in the first round of the league season.

Motherwell-based City suffered a major setback in their challenge for a top-eight spot last Saturday when Mthatha Bucks beat them 7-2.

Nkosinathi Fountain and company cannot afford yet another slip-up at this stage.

City coach Bonke Namba said the match against Stars would be a tough encounter.

"It will be a challenging clash because the visitors will be fighting to consolidate their championship position while we will be fighting to collect maximum points to reach the top-eight bracket.

"We've rectified our mistakes from the previous match and I'm glad to say we are ready to dim the Stars because we've got a plan in place for them."

Meanwhile, Highbury have an opportunity to improve their position on the Eastern Cape ABC Motsepe League log when they host Mthatha Bucks at the Gelvandale Stadium today at 3pm.

Third-placed Highbury have 41 points from 20 matches, with a game in hand, and they are trailing log leaders Stars by six points.

Coach Garth Dickinson said Highbury had a good training session after they collected full points against Red Stars on Saturday.

"The team is in good spirits [but] we won't underestimate Bucks because they are also gunning for the championship title and half of their team [are] professional players."
