Lion City tipped for glory in three-way battle

THE race for the Safa-NMB SAB title seems to be taking its toll as the three challengers go toe-to-toe for the championship.

When the season resumed in January, Subs were sitting comfortably at the top of the log with Callies and Lion City on their heels. However, several poor results saw Callies move to the top of the log and open up a five-point lead with City remaining in the hunt.

It was then Callies turn to wilt under pressure and they slipped to second and after last week's draw are now third.

Meanwhile, City who always maintained that the championship race was a marathon, pounced last week and became the log-leaders for the first time and with six matches remaining must be odds-on favourites to lift the trophy.

The three contenders play teams who held them to draws in the first round.

Fixtures: Tomorrow: Stars v Camper United (NU9), Fairview Rovers v Sunrise Development (Saints), Peace United v Callies (Walmer High), Central Acemates v Showvillage United (Westbourne Oval), Royal Bucks v Lion City (NU9), Motherwell Academy v Hotspurs (Morningside), Despatch Pioneers v Highland Spurs (Khayamnandi), Subs v Island City (NU2) - Mogan Segadavan
