DF Malherbe High became the first team to retain the Albert House B&B Karoo Schools Golf Challenge in Cradock at the weekend.

In its fourth year, the challenge has developed into a keen test for supremacy among the top golf schools in Eastern Province.

The unique format of the challenge includes the four-ball, foursomes and singles formats in a true test of players' abilities to perform as a team.

Played at the picturesque Cradock Golf Club, the teams opened with nine holes of fourball competition.

DF Malherbe took the lead after both their teams played three under par for a total of 66, followed by Grey High on 70 and Nico Malan on 72.

In the singles, with three of the four scores to count, DF Malherbe extended their lead in testing conditions to 11 shots, with Nico Malan and Grey tied for second place.

After the final round, DF Malherbe retained the title by a comfortable margin of 16 shots, followed by Grey and Nico Malan.
