Hard hats a must for big-hitting six-a-side

The event is now in its 52nd year and has long been a highlight on the local cricketing calendar.

Its frenetic action and big-hitting have become a source of great entertainment over the years and this weekend's edition should prove no different.

The final is scheduled to start at 4.30pm.

Torn hamstrings and pulled calf muscles are expected dime a dozen with the golden oldies event taking place on the neighbouring Kemsley Park field. That final will be played from 3.30pm at Freeplay Park.

The Golden Oldies fixtures are: 8.30am: Penguin CC v Old Grey, 9.30am: PECC v Gelvandale, 10.30am: Old Grey v PECC, 11.30am: Gelvandale v Penguin CC, 12.30pm: Penguin CC v PECC, 1.30pm: Old Grey v Gelvandale

Meanwhile, Eastern Province Cricket's coaching department will be holding a CSA Level 1 course for all coaches.

The course will target any club, school and private coaches keen on obtaining their Level 1 certificate.

The course will run over two consecutive days from 8.30am-4.30pm each day. The venue will be the Indoor Centre at Axxess St George's.

The cost is R200 and any candidates interested in attending should contact Claire Terblanche at or fax on (041)506-6641 by next Friday. -
