Subs stay in touch after Callies draw

THE race for the Safa-NMB SAB League title is far from over after Hotspurs held Callies to a goalless draw at the Dyke at the weekend.

Callies went into the game with a five-point lead over Subs with Lion City a further point behind. Hotspurs are in fourth spot, way behind the three frontrunners. Callies have only themselves to blame for not coming away with maximum points after playing against 10 men in the last quarter of the game.

The Spurs keeper received his marching orders when he was red-carded for handling the ball outside his area midway in the second half. In another match, Subs scraped home home to a 1-0 victory over Fairview Rovers to get within three points of Callies. Liza Mahala scored for the Motherwell outfit midway in the second half.

And Lion City kept up their challenge for the league title by mauling Showvillage 5-0. Thamsanqa Qwabeni opened the scoring with a low volley from an acute angle, and in the second half, City went on the rampage scoring four goals without reply.

Akhona Manqola got the second for City when he latched on to a cross by substitute Thulani Shumpa.

City's second substitute Siyasanga Ngetu made it 3-0 with his first touch of the ball and Anathi Katangama added a brace to make the final score 5-0. Royal Bucks continued their remarkable climb away from the lower end of the log with a 4-2 win over Tomorrow Stars.

The Pefa derby between Central Acemates and Motherwell Academy ended in a goalless draw.
