Red Sox win gives them title No3

DESPITE being tested by Pirates last weekend, Despatch Red Sox remained unbeaten to claim the baseball Nelson Mandela Bay league title for the third year in row.

Coached by Skuttie Bezuidenhout, Pirates gave it their best shot against Red Sox, but the Despatch team prevailed in the end to secure the title with a 20-12 win.

The best performers for Red Sox were Keith Grobler (best batter and catcher) and Daniel Coetzer (best pitcher), closely followed by Nantie Hayward and Owen Minnie.

A combination of youth and experience worked well for Red Sox, with youngsters like Gerrie Coetzer and Tyler van Deventer pulling their weight in the outfield. This weekend, Despatch Red Sox seconds will be put to the test by Gelvan Saints, with ex-EP star Bram Smith on the mound.

This game will take place at 2pm at the Despatch Red Sox field.

The first teams clash at 4pm, while Park Tigers take on Pirates at Londt Park (2pm and 4pm).
