PE Club men look well set to extend lead

PE CLUB will be aiming to extend their lead in the PE and District men's premier A tennis league when they play the return match against NMMU at the varsity courts tomorrow.

The teams tied 8-8 in the first round, but that represented NMMU's best performance of the season. They have lost their three remaining matches and trail logleading PE by 14 points.

You would fancy a PE team who can call on players such as Conrad Hurter, Chris Loock and Helgard Zietsman to stay in control of proceedings and to improve their position on the log.

With just two rounds remaining, PE Club will need a decent haul of points because they are being closely pursued by Victoria Park and Westview.

Although the points standings must be ratified by the log keeper, VP have collected 34 points, just two behind PE Club, while Westview are on 32.

That makes the VP-Westview clash at VP tomorrow a crucial one for both sides. Whoever emerges on top will have the chance to challenge PE for the title.

VP should be particularly keen to claim the major share of the points because they play PE in the final round next weekend. Two victories for the VP lads could earn them the title, although PE Club remain firmly on the inside track for top honours.
