Heartbreak in final second for Collegiate

COLLEGIATE were pipped in the final second to end runners-up in the Shaun Fuchs Cup U15 national waterpolo tournament hosted by Crawford College in Johannesburg at the weekend.

The Port Elizabeth girls did exceptionally well to win all eight of their pool games, advancing to the semifinals where they defeated Clarendon of East London. The final was against another East London school, Stirling, and it proved to be an incredibly close encounter.

The teams were level at 2-2 with seconds remaining when a shot by Stirling taken from outside the halfway line landed in the Collegiate goal with one second on the clock.

  • In the same tournament, the Pearson team produced some excellent results against some of the top schools in the country.
The highlight for the Pearson team came when Ashleigh Vaughan was named player of the tournament.

The Pearson first team competed in the Old Petrians tournament in Johannesburg.

Hosted by St Peter's College, 24 teams from around the country played at two different venues over three days. The Pearson girls came up against stiff competition, but lost only two of their nine games. Those defeats came against the two finalists, Reddam and St Mary's.

Pearson ended fifth overall.
