Callies look set to extend lead

CALLIES can extend their lead at the top of the Safa-NMB SAB League this weekend – with a match in hand they have a one-point lead.

They play Showvillage United tomorrow and Sunrise Development in a catch-up fixture on Sunday. Both matches are at the Zwide Stadium. In the first round they beat Sunrise 1-0 and had a walkover against Showvillage.

Callies will be hoping Pefa neighbours Central Acemates will emerge victors over Subs at Kemsley Park. Lion City, who are the only other team in contention for the league title, face giant-killers Sunrise Development tomorrow.

With the league title out of their reach, the best Hotspurs and Fairview Rovers can expect is a fourth-place finish. After thrashing Peace United 4-1 in their last match, Hotspurs displaced Rovers for fourth place. Rovers probably ended Lion City's chances when they held the title contenders to a goalless draw.

City, the only team in the league capable of winning the championships, play Tomorrow Stars. Stars will be no push-over.

On Saturday Hotspurs play Camper United at the NU9 Stadium, while Rovers host Highland Spurs at the Saints field. In the first round Hotspurs lost 2-0 to Camper, while Rovers drew 1-1 with Highland Spurs.

Fixtures tomorrow: Motherwell Academy v Tomorrow Stars, Royal Bucks v Despatch Pioneers, Central Acemates v Subs, Peace United v Island City, Fairview Rovers v Highland Spurs, Camper United v Hotspurs, Morning Stars v Lion City, Callies v Showvillage United

Sunday: Callies v Sunrise Development.
