Emphatic cricket win for Graeme

GRAEME batsmen Odwa Xonxa and Nicholas Zimmerman shone with centuries as they helped the Grahamstown school to an emphatic cricket win over the visiting Alexander Road.

Sent in to bat on a pitch with a bit more grass than usual, Graeme were stunned immediately when Keenan Vieira perished to the first delivery of the day on Saturday. However, Graeme soon began to build an innings of substance which looked ominous for the visitors when Xonxa and Zimmerman added 140 for the third wicket.

Xonxa struck his second century for the first XI while it was the young Zimmerman's maiden ton.

Once Zimmerman reached three figures, Xonxa declared on 275/5.

Alexander Road's reply never got off the ground and wickets tumbled quickly to a ruthless Graeme seam attack. The visitors slumped to 44/8 before recovering slightly to eventually be dismissed for 105.
