Cape raider can give punters a 'lift' in Pick 6

Punters' Pal

HORSE racing fans are usually a superstitious bunch and today just might be the day that it can come in handy.

It is a very competitive meeting at Fairview on Valentine's Day, so there is no harm in looking for jockeys wearing red colours or horses with red or love or valentine in their names to find the winners.

An effort should be made to get to Fairview today. It should be a fun day as manager Luciano Passerini and his team will no doubt make sure of an enjoyable meeting with a Valentine's Day theme.

The Breeders Guineas Plate for three-year-old fillies will top the nine-race programme. It should be a great race, with Cape Town visitor Lift Off a worthy favourite. The local fillies to keep an eye on are Winter Fantasy, Titlee and Arrow Heart.

We tipped you a very nice Pick 6 last Friday using a runner from the Justin Snaith stable as a banker in the first leg (thank you Richard Fourie for a great ride after being caught out wide).

Lift Off is a possible Snaith banker again in race five and punters could also look at Lady Silvia in race four with the stable of trainer Alan Greeff in fine form.

Talking about Greeff, I received a few queries about the trainer's log in the East Cape. At the end of the season (end of July) the trainer with the most wins at meetings in Port Elizabeth is crowned as the champion. Remember, only winners in PE count for this championship and some readers were including the Snaith winners in Cape Town and Dorrie Sham's winners in Kimberley for this.

However, Greeff leads this season's challenge with 48 winners and looks likely to be the first to crack 50.

The Snaith satellite yard, run by Estelle Blake, follows with 42, then Yvette Bremner (38), with defending champion Gavin Smith and Sham on 34 each.

However, it is still a long way to go and it should be an exciting battle.

Out-of-town riders Muzi Yeni, Richard Fourie and Greg Cheyne should fight it out for the jockey's title.
