Oakdale crowned regional champs

OAKDALE Agricultural have emerged as the CSA Schools Twenty20 Challenge cricket champions after defeating Langenhoven Gymnasium in the South Western Districts final. The Riversdale school took the title for the second time with a five-wicket win over Langenhoven, who had been among the favourites for the title. In a match played at the REC ground in Oudtshoorn, Oakdale won the toss and, despite some missed chances, they still managed to restrict Langenhoven to 106/9 in their 20 overs. Only Arno Meyer (23 off 24 balls) and Ruaan Steyn (36 for 38 balls) were able to contribute anything substantial with the bat. Hermanus Botha (2/15), JP Coetzee (2/16) and Paul Bosch (2/26) did most of the damage with the ball. Oakdale looked shaky in their reply at 18/3 but a superb unbeaten captain's knock by Stefan Streicher (49 off 64 balls) saw them seal the win. He received good support from Ruan Barnard (39). Jetro Weyers (2/24) and Grant Esau (2/20) stood out among the Langenhoven bowlers.
