Londt Park to host kids' baseball trials

THE Madiba Bay Baseball Association trials will take place at Londt Park tomorrow from 10am to noon.

The trials are open to children in two divisions, under-12 and under- 15. Those two age group teams will compete in the nationals in April.

The SA U15 team will then be chosen to tour Mexico later in the year with Dylan le Roux, who has been earmarked to lead the team.

Meanwhile, Red Sox remain unbeaten and will face Gelvan A in a top-of-the-table clash at Londt Park, starting at 4pm tomorrow. Last weekend Red Sox beat Pirates 18-12. A feature of the game was some fine pitching by youngsters Gertjie Coetzer, of Red Sox, and Elrich Tolmie, of Pirates. There was superb batting by Keith Grobler and Wiehan Rautenbach, from Red Sox, as well as Herkie Koekemoer and JP Benson, from Pirates.

Tomorrow's match between Red Sox and Gelvan A will see Lyle Meyer and Nantie Hayward go head to head. At 2pm, St Peters will be put to the test against Red Sox in the curtain-raiser. The other match tomorrow will see Pirates facing Tigers in Uitenhage at 4pm.

In softball, Nexia SABT Panthers ended St Peters' unbeaten record at the weekend. In a closely contested match, Panthers won 12-9 with Sismarie Engelbrecht, Mariaan Grebe and Alta-Mari Grebe executing two double plays. Home run queen Mariaan hit her third one of the season while pitcher Carol Geswindt had an excellent match for St Peters.
