THANKS to their inspired win over New Zealand at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium the Blitz Boks are now second on the overall log ahead of the next leg of the HSBC Sevens World Series, which will be played in Las Vegas next month.
Their thrilling 17-14 win over archrivals New Zealand in the final of the South African leg of the series has resulted in the Blitz Boks being drawn as the top-ranked team in Pool A alongside Kenya, Wales and Canada for the American showpiece from January 24 to 26.
New Zealand, who lead SA by two points in the overall standings after three tournaments, face a much tougher road to the quarterfinals after being drawn alongside Fiji, Australia and Scotland in Pool B. The Kiwis have 58 points and the Blitz Boks have 56.
After their win Blitz Boks skipper Kyle Brown said: “This whole weekend in Port Elizabeth has been difficult to put into words – from Friday to playing so well on Saturday, and carrying that momentum into day two.
