ROYAL Bucks came within a whisker of toppling Subs from their position at the top of the Safa-NMB SAB League table on Saturday.

Despite their position at the lower end of the log, Bucks kept the log-leaders at bay until the last quarter of their clash at the NU2 Stadium when Aviwe Venge broke the deadlock in the 75th minute to give Subs a 1-0 victory.

Callies had to come from behind yet again to secure second spot in the league.

After a goalless first half the Londt Park outfit found themselves trailing Tomorrow Stars 1-0 straight after the break in their match at the Westbourne Oval.

After Nkosinathi Ndamase headed home a corner from skipper Luvuyo Bika, Callies never looked back and could have won by a far greater margin. The skipper struck twice to make the final score 3-1.

Lion City remained hot on the heels of the frontrunners with an easy 5-1 win over Camper United after leading 4-0 at the break.

Malibongwe Maseti opened the scoring and goals by Mihlali Mkonto, Thulani Shumpa and a second by Mkonto saw City run riot.

After the break the Nedbank Cup champions took the foot off the pedal and almost paid dearly. When Camper pulled one back they smelt blood and only an excellent performance by City keeper Ntembeko Bombotho kept them at bay.

Mayenzeke Sokunentsa made the final score 5-1.

Central Acemates finally played to their true potential when they thrashed Island City 4-1. The Pefa Premier League champions led 2-0 at the break with goals by Luwazi Sahula and Thembalani Dlula.

In the second half the Uitenhage outfit reduced the deficit but goals by Dili Gabuza and Sahula put the issue beyond doubt.

In one of the most exciting matches of the weekend Peace United and Highland Spurs drew 2-2 at the Jabavu Stadium. After Lindile Payi gave Peace a 1-0 lead going into the break Spurs struck twice to go 2-1 ahead. Peace were back on level terms when Vuyani Klaas netted.
