NETBALL star Siphokazi Mapakati and cricketer Brydon Carse received Pearson’s top sports awards at the school’s recent prize-giving.
Mapakati was awarded the Victrix Ludorum for her netball achievements this year.
This highly committed player was selected for the East Cape under-18A netball team that participated in the national week in Margate in July.
She was the only Eastern Cape player to have been selected as part of a 30-player squad for the national training camp.
Mapakati has been a valuable player for the Pearson first team as goal and wing attack, and was also the vice-captain of her team.
She was also voted the senior netball player of the year.
The Victor Ludorum trophy for the senior sportsman of the year was awarded to Brydon Carse.
This allrounder, who bats at number three and opens the bowling for Pearson, has been selected to represent Eastern Province at this year’s Khaya Majola Week next month.
Carse was part of the Cricket South Africa U17 (last year) and U19 (this year) training squads, and is on standby for the SA U19 World Cup team for next year.
His contributions have been a big factor in Pearson’s cricket success over the past two years, with a top score of 131 against Marlow in the Pearson Powerade Festival in September.
He recorded his best bowling figures of 6/15 against Grey High during the same festival.
Carse was also voted Pearson senior player of the year.
