COLLEGIATE emerged triumphant in the Kingswood under-13 girls’ waterpolo festival in Grahamstown at the weekend, beating Clarendon in a thrilling final.
Kingswood Junior hosted the event for the second time.
The festival included Clarendon U13A and B, Stirling and Hudson Park from East London and Stanmore Academy, who were joined by Collegiate and two Kingswood teams – U13A and the Wyverns.
The event again proved to be a most enjoyable affair, with Collegiate coming out as the victors after beating Clarendon U13A 8-7 in a thrilling display.
After having beaten the strong Clarendon U13A team in their pool match, Collegiate went into the final as the top-placed team and were keen to maintain their dominance over their East London rivals.
The final epitomised the high standard of waterpolo that had been on display throughout the entire festival.
The finalists were both pushed in earlier matches by the competent Hudson Park and Kingswood teams, while the Stanmore Academy, Clarendon U13B and Wyverns teams all put up spirited performances.
The sport continues to grow in popularity at this level within the Eastern Cape and that has seen an increase in popularity of the Kingswood festival.
The girls arrived on Friday afternoon and played a minimum of seven games.
