VP athletes up against Bloem schools

VICTORIA Park athletes enjoyed a tough opener to the season when they took part in the Clover meeting in Bloemfontein at the weekend, hosted by Grey College, Oranje Meisies and Kovsies (Free State University).

There were 21 top athletics high schools from around the country at the meeting and this provided the VP athletes with stiff competition.

The VP competitors found it tough going against their experienced counterparts, but it made them aware of the hard work which lies ahead.

However, there were some good VP performances. Cayla Seddon, who won Eastern Cape High Schools titles in the long jump, 200m and 100m hurdles, came back brilliantly to win the hurdles event in a good time of 15.42 after experiencing disappointment in her other two events.

Qhamani Plaatjie ran a personal best of 11.72 seconds in the boys U17 100m and placed 14th overall.

Reece Brower, who is the Eastern Cape High Schools high jump champion, won a bronze medal in the boys U17 high jump with a height of 1.80m.

This week the athletes prepare for the Tams Top 10 competition, which will be held in Cradock on Saturday.
