Grey win water polo tournament

THE Grey High under-14A side excelled in the annual Peter Cuff water polo tournament in East London at the weekend, winning all their games to take the Eastern Cape Championship.


The team topped their pool with victories over St Andrew's (10-1), Queen's (14-0) and Hudson Park (11-1) to set up a semifinal against East London side Stirling.


They continued their domination with a one-sided 7-1 victory to secure a shot at the title against old East London rivals Selborne.


In the final, consisting of two halves of seven minutes each, Grey kept their composure to shade their old foes 3-2. The team's dominance was underlined by their final goal tally in which they scored 45 goals and conceded just five.


In three warm-up matches for the tournament, the under-14s beat Grey 4th 12-1, Pearson U14A 14-0 and Stirling girls' 1st 12-6.


The team comprised Jordan Blewett, Andrew van Vuuren, Rogan Scheepers, Andrew Dalgleish, Travis de Bruin, Daniel Ward, Adam Rubin, Philip Weyer-Henderson and Zach Oosthuizen.
