Madibaz hit back to win after early deficit

CHAMPIONS NMMU Madibaz saw their B team take a 2-0 lead, before they took control to run out winners in their EP men’s premier league hockey match yesterday.

There might have been some flutters at the early deficit, but, unfortunately for the B team, their joy was short-lived as the Madibaz quickly hit back to take the encounter 7-2.

The result means the Madibaz are still unbeaten in the men’s premier league this season and sets them up nicely for a clash with arch-rivals Gelvan Hurricanes at NMMU on Sunday.

The Hurricanes also went on something of a goal feast yesterday when they powered to an 8-2 win against Pirates Bluebeards.

In another high-scoring encounter, Old Grey turned on the gas early in the second half, scoring three goals in 11 minutes, two by Richard Coombs, to defeat Gelvan Units 7-2 after leading only 2-0 at the break.

The Units will be happy to have struck two goals in the second half by Curtis Roberts.

In the women’s league, Gelvan Tornados overcame a testing encounter to defeat Rhodes 3-1 on Saturday.
