Alex hockey girls have a field day

THERE were mixed fortunes for Alexander Road in their girls’ hockey matches at the weekend, defeating Riebeek, but losing to DSG.

On Friday, the Alex first team played Riebeek and, in a scrappy game, managed to clinch a 2-1 victory. On Saturday, the team travelled to Grahamstown and produced much better hockey and narrowly lost 1-0 to DSG.

The rest of the Riebeek derby took place at Alex on Saturday in cold and blustery conditions.

Alex enjoyed a successful morning, winning all five of the matches played. They outclassed Riebeek as they ran in 26 goals and conceded only one. The games, however, were played in good spirit and at the end of the day sportsmanship was the winner.

The results were: Alex u-14A won 11-0, Alex u-14B won 3-0, Alex u-16A won 6-0, Alex u-16B won 3-1, Alex 2nd won 3-0.
