WESTERN Province under-18s were crowned the Learners with Special Educational Needs (LSEN) Craven Week champions when they beat Eastern Cape 26-12 in an exciting encounter at Daniel Pienaar in Uitenhage yesterday.
The heavy rain that fell failed to dampen the eagerness and passion the Western Province boys displayed in registering their win on a water-logged field.
Scrumhalf Jason Wessels scored the opening try in the first 20 minutes of the game and hooker Nazeer April doubled the score with another try, while flyhalf Keener Parnell kicked two conversions. Eastern Cape centre Darren Ruiters scored the first try for his side before the break.
Both sides showed plenty of pace and flair and combined to produce the match of the day.
Though the Eastern Cape side held their own in the first half, there was no stopping the boys from the Western Province after the break as they took complete control.
Parnell scored the third try for his side while flyhalf Migale Dawood scored the fourth and slotted a conversion.
Duane Joseph replied with the last try for the Eastern Cape and Rameez Nell converted to complete the scoring.
