Sharks hooker on Bok bench

THREE club matches were deemed sufficient to test the knee that suffered near- catastrophic injury and forced Bismarck du Plessis to the sidelines for almost a year. The Sharks hooker was yesterday restored to the Springbok squad to take on Scotland in Mbombela on Saturday.

“I definitely would have preferred to play Super Rugby or Vodacom rugby [first]. Any first-class rugby,” Du Plessis said after being named on the bench.

“If I only get a minute on Saturday I’ll try to fit 80 into it,” he said. “It’s very exciting to be back. ‘Frustrated’ doesn’t begin to describe my time on the sidelines. I always say that if you miss a game it is a game that you will never have back again. It is over and done with. I want to be fit and play my part in the team.”

His selection means there is no place for Chiliboy Ralepelle, whose international career seems to be in limbo since he agreed to join French club Toulouse.
