NMMU Madibaz continued their winning trend when they defeated Old Grey 3-1 in their EP men’s premier league hockey match at KC March astro yesterday.
The defending champions have been in good form this season and have included a win over the Gelvan Hurricanes, putting them well on track to retain their title.
Old Grey presented another tough hurdle and having overcome them will give the varsity team much confidence as they look ahead to the rest of the season.
In the earlier match yesterday, Lakeside Cavaliers did not have things all their own way against Gelvan Units, but were good enough to come away with a 3-1 victory.
On Friday night there was a splurge of goals in the NMMU B-Pirates encounter, with the student outfit eventually taking the honours 5-3.
In the women’s premier league, logleaders Gelvan Tornados showed little mercy as they netted seven against NMMU B without reply.
Gelvan are setting a high standard in the women’s competition, but NMMU A showed they cannot be written off yet. Yesterday, they were too strong for St Peters, winning 4-0, and will be aiming to keep up this sort of form to ensure there is no respite for Gelvan.
On Saturday, Uitenhage took full points against Old Collegians B in a close contest, winning 1-0.
