IN a scrappy schools rugby encounter, Alexander Road did enough to defeat Woodridge 14-0 in their clash at Woodridge at the weekend.
Woodridge started well and dominated the set phases for most of the match, but some excellent defence by Alex kept the home team in check.
After absorbing the pressure, Alex flyhalf Dylan Walters took his chances and put his team 9-0 ahead at half time with two penalties and a drop goal.
In the second half, an intercept try by Alex centre Jesse Johnson sealed their victory.
The first team boys’ hockey match was contested on Friday and the encounter produced a great tussle with some exceptional hockey being produced by the two sides.
The final score was 2-2, but Woodridge were forced to fight back on each occasion to secure the draw in what turned out to be a fair reflection of the game.
The girls’ first hockey game was also an enthralling encounter, but in a closely fought affair, the Alex girls came away with a 2-1 win.
In the netball clash, the Woodridge girls played with determination to end up winning 26-20.
