Alex hockey girls keep up defence

THE Alexander Road girls’ hockey team continued their good form this season when they played to a 1-1 draw with Collegiate at the weekend.

Producing a strategic game, Alex came back from trailing 1-0 at halftime to secure the draw.

The Alex team showed great determination and team spirit in the second half to fight their way back for a share of the honours.

This year, Alex have beaten Woodridge 1-0, Union 3-0 and Gill 2-0.

Coached by Kyle Schimper, the team are looking to do well locally and are also aspiring to be invited to more prestigious tournaments.

The newly built astroturf at Alexander Road has helped their hockey players to be competitive in Port Elizabeth.

The next challenge is against Pearson on Saturday at Alexander Road.

The Alexander Road boys’ team registered a notable 1-0 over Kingswood in their clash in Port Elizabeth on Friday.

Richard Isaacs scored only three minutes into the game and then Alex managed to absorb the pressure thrown at them for the remainder of the game by a strong Kingswood side.

The visitors had several opportunities, but Alex’s good defensive effort denied them.

In the under-16A match, Kingswood proved too strong for the home side, winning 4-1.
