AGAINST all the odds the Southern Kings made Super Rugby history when they beat the Western Force 22-10 to shoot to the top South African conference at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday night.
Apart from their upset win, the Kings also became the first team to win its debut match in Super Rugby much to the delight of more than 30000 fans who witnessed their team’s dream start to “big-time” rugby.
Set on their way by two tries by irrepressible wonder teen wing Sergeal Petersen, the Kings made the perfect beginning to a campaign in which many had predicted they would not win a single match.
“What a wonderful start when you consider that no side has gone into Super Rugby and won its opening game,” Kings director of rugby Alan Solomons said.
