THERE was both good and bad news when the Blitzbokke announced their squad to play at this weekend’s Cell C Nelson Mandela Bay Sevens rugby tournament.
The positive news was the return of ace playmaker Cecil Afrika after a knee injury, while the bad news was that former Grey High pupil and star centre Steven Hunt was not considered after injuring an ankle at training on Wednesday.
“We took Steven for scans this [Thursday] morning and the results on his ankle were not good, so we decided not to risk him and rather play Bernado Botha instead,” Blitzbokke coach Paul Treu said.
Afrika, a former IRB Sevens Player of the Year, makes a welcome return to the squad that will play in South Africa’s home tournament at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium tomorrow and on Sunday.
