RUGBY officials and coaches are hoping that a new project will unearth more of the talent which exists in Nelson Mandela Bay’s township schools and, in particular, Ithembelihle.

At Crusaders last week, the Masikhulisane Development Project was launched in which Crusaders Rugby Club will twin with leading township school Ithembelihle to help them to grow as a rugby school.

The project has been backed by Caltex Eastern Cape Marketer, the master franchise for all Caltex service stations in the Eastern Cape.

Explaining the concept, Crusaders rugby president Andre Rademan said: “Crusaders Rugby Club intends to be at the front of the queue to supply Eastern Cape provincial and Super Rugby teams with talent.

“And to do this we need a constant feed of good, well-coached players from the schools. Ithembelihle have consistently demonstrated the ability to overcome the odds and beat the best.
