Huge influx expected for water polo

EASTERN Province schools water polo officials are gearing up for a massive influx of players and supporters when the SA schools interprovincial competition is held in Port Elizabeth from December 10-14.

Beginning the day after the IRB World Sevens Rugby Series in PE is completed, the event, sponsored by Old Mutual Wealth, will see a total of 2000 water polo players and coaches clashing for national honours. This includes 1800 boys and girls ranging in age from 13 to 19, referees and officials.

The organisers anticipate that at least a further 2000 supporters will also be in the city that week for the tournament.

Six venues around the city will be used for the tournament which will see 10 provinces, plus Zimbabwe, fighting it out for top honours.

The games will take place at Grey (two pools), Woodridge, Collegiate, Pearson, Alexander Road and the Newton Park pool, which will be the main venue.

The age-group competitions for boys and girls begin at under-13 and include u-14, u-15, u-16 and u-19.
