PE golfer beats cramps to win at Cancer Challenge

NOT even the onset of a bout of severe cramps could stop Port Elizabeth golfer Geraldine Bicknell from registering a memorable triumph in the Sanlam Cancer Challenge at Sun City last week.

The 63-year-old Walmer Golf Club member overcame a tumble on the final hole in her second round to win the women’s Section C with an individual stableford total of 64 points.

But it almost went horribly wrong for a seriously fatigued Bicknell when she fell to the ground after playing her approach across a pond to the 18th hole on the Gary Player Country Club course.
