TWO young fast bowlers linked to the Warriors franchise made a significant impact for their respective teams in the CSA Provincial Three-day competition at the weekend, marking Marcello Piedt and Solomzi Nqweni as emerging players to watch.
Playing for South Western Districts against Western Province, the 20-year-old Piedt claimed an incredible seven wickets for six runs as he spearheaded his team’s march to an innings victory in Oudtshoorn.
In Durban, Nqweni, who turned 19 on Saturday, was wreaking havoc for Eastern Province as they took on KwaZulu-Natal at Chatsworth, claiming seven for 48 to give the visitors the upper hand before rain ended proceedings on the second day.
As impressive as their efforts were, EP coach Christo Esau warned yesterday it was too early to get too excited about their performances.
