PE SAPS narrowly beat the Brumbies 27-24 in a closely contested EP Grand Challenge Top Seven rugby encounter in Grahamstown at the weekend.
The visitors got off to a good start and went to the break with a slim 10-7 lead.
The second half proved to be more entertaining as both sides came back from the break determined to claim the points. But in the end, it was the Port Elizabeth side which came back to take the spoils.
In another Top Seven clash, Harlequins ran in four tries to claim a 24-12 win against Park at Londt Park.
The Northern Areas side took control of the game from the first whistle to the last. In the first half, the visitors crossed the line twice, while Park crossed once.
Harlequins started the second half as they had the first and managed to score and convert two tries. The hosts also scored and converted a try, but it was too late for any comeback as Harlequins kept control.
Meanwhile, Gardens did enough against Progress to clinch a 16-6 victory at the Adcock Stadium.
Gardens started the game well and went into the break with an 11-3 lead. The second half did not have many scoring opportunities, but Gardens added a further try, while Progress scored another penalty.
In the bottom six, Suburban, level 10-10 at halftime with Crusaders, held a slight advantage in the second half to win 24-20.
