Kings gear up for Cup

DESPITE losing 27-17 to the Contipartners Premier XV at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium at the weekend, the Southern Kings say they are ready for the IRB Nations Cup, which kicks off in Romania this week.
Southern Kings coach Alan Solomons was content with his side’s performance in their friendly match, which served as a warm-up for the Nations Cup, where they will play as the SA Kings. They travel to Romania today, with their first match, against Georgia, taking place on Friday.
Although their efforts on Saturday were marred by errors, which experienced former Boks and Springbok Sevens players in the Premier XV capitalised on, the Kings believed playing against such strong opposition was good practice.
“The match served its purpose,” Solomons said.
“There was good competitiveness, and that will stand us in good stead going into the Nations Cup.”
