Gelvan Tornadoes aiming to continue positive start to year

WITH one win already under their belts, Gelvan Tornados will be aiming to continue a positive start to the season when they take on NMMU B in their second EP women’s premier league hockey fixture on Saturday.
Gelvan completed a proud double for the club when they claimed the women’s premier league title last season and coach Enver Amien said on Thursday the team were motivated to continue their winning trend.
“We obviously want to keep winning as long as we can so the aim is to keep the players motivated for that,” Amien said.
With experienced and talented players such as Liezel Dorothy, Tarryn Kemp, Jenny Rembe and Tammy Boggenpoel, the Tornados certainly have the material to maintain their high standards and the win over Old Grey A sent a strong message out to their rivals.
As in the men’s league, NMMU Madibaz are sure to be their chief rivals and varsity sports official Cheslyn Gie said yesterday they were delighted to have attracted top young Border player Danielle Judge to the varsity.
