Border men take St Francis title

KELVIN Edwards and Jason le Roux kept the Border flag flying high when they took the Santam men’s Open title in another highly successful St Francis Bay International doubles squash tournament at St Francis at the weekend.
Edwards, in partnership with Clinton Broedelet last year, was a losing finalist then, but this time he and Le Roux, who hails from East London but is now studying at NMMU, edged Western Province pair Pierr Roodt and Donald Davidson in the main final.
Tournament director Peter Bridges reported this week that the annual event was another great success thanks to the sporting spirit displayed by all players during the weekend.
“The biggest thank-you must go to you all (the players) for continuing to play the game in the spirit of great sportsmanship that is now characteristic of our tournament,” Bridges said.
EP players featured prominently in the finals, with Nicki Hurr (EP) linking up with Carla Hunt to defeat PE pairing Lisa O’Grady and Alison Oshry in the women’s final.
