A hard day at World Juniors

ZIMBABWEAN Scott Vincent and South African Zander Lombard were the only players to break 70 on a difficult day for good scoring in the first round of the KeNako South African World Juniors being played at George’s Kingswood Golf Estate.
This is the first World Junior Golf Series tournament staged in South Africa.
With very hot and humid conditions prevailing most of the day, and with gusting winds towards midday, along with a superbly prepared testing layout, all combined to make things difficult for the 113 players from 19 countries.
Vincent and Lombard lead the 54- hole strokeplay tournament for boys 19 or younger, with 69 each, recorded in starkly differing ways. Vincent, 18, who plays at Chapman Golf Club in Harare, carded five birdies and two bogeys.
Lombard only managed to record four pars in his round, the first coming at the par-four second hole, his 11th having started on the 10th tee.
