Thyssen barrage rockets Warriors to victory

THE Chevrolet Warriors have taken a step closer to the Standard Bank Pro20 series final following their semi-final, first-leg win over the Nashua Dolphins at Axxess St George’s on Friday.
The Warriors beat the Dolphins by four wickets thanks to an explosive, unbeaten 22 off eight balls from middle order batsman Craig Thyssen. The second leg will be played in Durban on Friday and the Warriors will travel to Durban in buoyant mood this week.
Coach Russell Domingo was full of praise for Thyssen, who often has the unenviable job of having to hit the first ball he faces out the ground. “That’s why we play Thyssen because he has the ability to do just that,” Domingo said.
“In the semi-final in Cape Town last season, we were dead and buried. He got 27 off 16 balls there, got us to 120 and we won by 10 runs. That’s his job. It’s a tough job coming in the last two or three overs and you have to hit the ball out the park. It’s a thankless task and more often than not, you’re not going to get runs. But if you get it right you can win the game.”
