Sharks stay on top of SA log

THE Sharks have retained their position as log-leaders in the SA Super Rugby conference by securing a 26-12 win over the Blues in Durban on Saturday.
In doing so the reigning Currie Cup champions have also remained second on the combined log, with Australia’s Waratahs still top after another bonus-point victory. Last week, the Waratahs cruised to a 30-6 victory over the Reds.
The Sharks delivered a structured performance against a side that looked in great shape the previous week when they beat the mighty Crusaders in Auckland. Flyhalf Patrick Lambie scored 21 of his team’s points on a day on which the humidity made ball-handling extremely difficult for both sides.
However, the real drama of the weekend unfolded in Bloemfontein on Friday.
In a classic scrap to the end between the Cheetahs and Bulls, Springbok rugby suffered a huge blow in the opening minutes of the match when Bok blindside flanker Juan Smith left the field through injury.
