Swiss athletes in PE to prepare for upcoming championships

SIX top Swiss middle-distance athletes have made Port Elizabeth their training ground over the past three weeks to hone their skills for their long events calendar, as well as the 2012 Olympics.
The person behind the training in South Africa is Humansdorp- born former Swiss long distance runner and Olympian Cornelia Burki, who has been taking the athletes through their paces, together with her husband Beat.
The couple, who have been bringing athletes to the city to train since 1984, believe that Port Elizabeth is one of the ideal cities to prepare middle-distance athletes and are in awe of the wonderful hospitality their athletes have received.
“We have been bringing athletes to PE for 27 years, but this is our first time we are back in the city in eight years. PE is the perfect place to train, not only in South Africa or the continent, but is one of the best places in the world. The weather, the hospitality and the friendliness are out of this world,” Burki said.
