Back to drawing board for Southern Kings after Cheetahs mauling

THERE still remains plenty of work to be done by the Southern Kings before they can be deemed ready for the big time of Super Rugby following their 45-17 beating at the hands of a powerful Cheetahs outfit in a friendly match at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Friday.
Having beaten the Blue Bulls the week before in grand style and expectations high of yet another shock win over one of the South African giant sides, the Kings’ lack of experience at the top level and conspicuous lack of consistency in back-to-back big matches let them down.
The Kings can also brace themselves for another bruising encounter when they take on a reinforced Lions side at the same venue this Friday.
“The players have to learn to be able to play back-to-back big games, week-in, week-out,” said Kings coach Alan Solomons.
