Former Nelson Mandela Bay ward councillor and community activist Kholisile Frans died yesterday of a heart attack.
Frans, 72, was a former ANC councillor in Ward 15 in New Brighton.
Andiswa Frans said yesterday her father had a history of heart problems.
He died at Dora Nginza Hospital in the morning .
“We are really shocked. We did not expect him to go so soon. My dad has been sick for a long time, going in and out of hospital.
“We have lost someone who always unified the family,” she said.
Funeral arrangements had not yet been decided on.
“We are faced with a challenge as my mother is also in hospital. She doesn’t know yet about Dad.” Frans is survived by his wife, Nomvuyo, 62, and eight children.
ANC regional spokesman Gift Ngqondi said Frans’s death was a great loss to the country.
“Comrade Frans was a gallant fighter who played a significant role in advancing the agenda of the civic movement in the country,” Ngqondi said.
“He shall be remembered for his contribution in the mass democratic revolution.”
