Mashaba proposes extending city manager's contract

The new executive mayor of the City of Johannesburg‚ Herman Mashaba‚ has proposed that city manager Trevor Fowler be retained in his position for a few months. Speaking during the second council meeting in the Braamfontein chambers‚ Mashaba said he had spoken to Fowler and requested him to remain in his position until December. Fowler’s contract ends at the end of September and he has indicated that he will not remain in the position under the new Democratic Alliance (DA) administration. In his submission to council‚ Mashaba said the city needed to get a proper replacement for the position of city manager. Council has to adopt the submission made by Mashaba for it to be implemented. Earlier‚ members of the Economic Freedom Fighters had filled up the room with song‚ while DA councillors took up the seats their African National Congress counterparts once occupied.
