City confident of getting AG nod soon as 90% of registers sorted
There appears to be light at the end of the tunnel for Nelson Mandela Bay’s shambolic leave record system, with the city confident that it could soon get the thumbs up from the auditor-general.
According to acting head of corporate services Vuyo Zitumane, the audit company that was hired to fix the mess has managed to sort through 90% of attendance registers for the municipality’s 7 000 workforce.
Zitumane’s department is hard at work trying to get the remaining 10%. However, she said they were battling to get the remaining registers from some of the municipal departments.
The attendance registers are for the past three financial years.
The metro’s leave system was in such a state that sick days were incorrectly recorded as holidays, forms were missing and some leave days were not even captured.
