Letter: Lessons learnt in T20 series

The idea was to use the long time to the next major T20 tournament to learn about the depth of South African cricket, to blood new talent and to reward those who starred in the domestic T20 tournament. So what did we learn? Lungi Ngidi, despite his brief career, is ready for the big time.

Mangaliso Mosehle is a quite capable batsman-wicketkeeper.

Reeza Hendricks, despite not showing much in his A team matches, can bat.

Imran Tahir is still good, despite a quiet domestic T20 season.

Andile Phehlukwayo discovered international cricket was not as easy as he found it against Australia.

Jon-Jon Smuts and Dane Paterson found food for thought.

The team discovered that catches win matches.

Sri Lanka discovered that they can barely beat a South African second XI, even when that team is not playing well.

And the coach discovered, as if he did not know, that people will blame him for the odd defeat, but not credit him for victory over New Zealand, a whitewash of Australia, a test series win over Australia in Australia and an absolute obliteration of Sri Lanka, mostly achieved without two of his best players.
