Letter: Court unsympathetic

I HAVE been to court to apply for an increase in maintenance a few times. No luck yet.

The magistrate finds it strange that my son goes to an upmarket high school, but the fees are sponsored. The court finds it hard to assist me.

The father of my son is a policeman who earns three times my salary. He always has some excuse why he is unable to give an increase for the last six years.

I feel that the magistrate is hostile and judgmental because my son is attending a very traditional school in Port Elizabeth. The maintenance does not cover school fees, uniforms, stationery, transport, board or food.

How is a policeman able to get away with not fully supporting his son and taking part in his son’s life?

Is there anyone who could provide me with advice? I am unable to afford an attorney.

The father of my child is married and supporting his wife’s children. Why has the court been so unfair to me?

I am struggling as a single parent.
