LETTER: Kings can follow Lions’ path

PLAYED 13, won 0, lost 13, points for 270 and points against 585 – this is the scoresheet at the end of the 2010 Super Rugby season for the Lions. Who would have thought they would become the pacesetters for this season (and beyond)?

Consider that on both occasions the clearance for the Southern Kings to enter the Super Rugby competition was given at the 11th hour after all the top players were snatched by the entrenched franchises and we had to settle with the scraps. Furthermore, any EP players with above average talent were siphoned by these entrenched franchises.

Our financial woes further poisoned the chalice. Instead of belittling our team, let’s be realistic about their path that they had to follow.

Let’s look at the results the Lions scored over the years and know that we, too, will have to follow a similar path. Our young men give their all and the least we can do is support them by turning up at the stadium.
