Letter: Racist attack condemned

THE vicious racist attack on a pizza delivery man in Port Elizabeth, which saw the driver of a bakkie intentionally knock down a Debonairs employee on his motorbike, leaves me cold and disgusted.

There is no place for discriminatory and hateful behaviour of this nature in our community.

The man responsible for this must be criminally investigated, given the video proof that clearly shows the premeditated attack taking place.

I will be opening a case against the suspect at the Humewood Police Station for the criminal conduct, as well as with the South African Human Rights Commission for the blatant racism involved.

We need unwavering commitment to redress from every South African; a deliberate and conscious effort to work together to right the wrongs of our past. We have to do this together, without exception, otherwise we will struggle to shake off the shackles of our dark history.

Those who choose to hold us back by engaging in acts of racism are not welcome in our society.

I will remain steadfast in my devotion to freedom, fairness and opportunity. I will remain steadfast in my devotion to the people of South Africa. Social cohesion is no accident; it takes courage, commitment and it takes time.
