Letter: Councillor works hard

I WAS particularly surprised to read the letter from Natalie Alexander, taking aim at Ward 2 councillor Dean Biddulph (“Many beach area lights out”, February 2). Perhaps Alexander is being used as cannon fodder for the ANC’s visionless electioneering.

As a resident of Summerstrand, I can honestly say Biddulph is one of the hardest working people I know. Just the other day I saw him filling potholes which the municipality seems incapable of doing.

Biddulph responds to every e-mail sent his way, and takes up issues with the municipality as and when they surface. That’s been my personal experience with him.

It is common knowledge, Natalie Alexander, that the ANC has neglected to replenish the municipal stores, which means that your desperately missing lights are unable to be replaced because replacements simply don’t exist. You have this ANC administration to thank for that, considering it cut the maintenance budget.

Perhaps Biddulph should start welding his own light fittings together so that you can enjoy peaceful night walks. But then again, perhaps this ANC municipality should just be better at being a government or perhaps, it’s time for a new government.
